My friend Tony Schwartz who is the author of the book, The Way We’re Working Isn’t Working: The Four Forgotten Needs That Energize Great Performance, offers these tips for a better way to lead:
- When you start to feel angry or anxious, take a deep breath, in to a count of 3, out to a count of 6. Then decide how to respond.
- Make getting 7-8 hours of sleep your number one priority. Even small amounts of sleep deprivation make you suboptimal as a performer and as a leader.
- Hold yourself to a higher standard. The next time you find yourself in a difficult situation; ask “What’s the right thing to do”
