Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, there was a king that ruled over a vast territory. One day, the king declared, if we build a bridge over the abyss, then our kingdom will be richer and we can hunt the animals on the other side. He gathered his men and instructed them to build a bridge. When it was completed, he gathered all the people of the kingdom together to celebrate and announced,
“Look at this beautiful bridge. Isn’t it the mightiest and best bridge that you have ever seen?”
A lone voice courageously cried out, “No, I don’t think so; it is not strong enough.”
The king was outraged.
“Hang that naysayer for his lack of faith!”
And the naysayer was hanged. The king led the parade across the bridge and when they were nearly to the other side, the bridge began to shake and tremble. It broke, and the king and all the kings’ men fell to their death.
