Jim Collins Mark Taylor

Your goal is not survival, it must be something bigger. – Jim Collins

As part of the Leading in Challenging Times series, we are privileged to offer insights from Jim Collins through a series of videos he created exclusively for the Vistage community. Jim has dedicated his life’s work to understanding what truly makes great companies tick during good times and bad, and no one in the world has studied this dynamic more than he has.

This video contains core concepts from Jim Collins tailored to help Vistage members navigate through crisis and uncertainty.

In Webinar One –  We will see the video on The Stockdale Paradox and after have a discussion with peers about its implications during this time.

“You must never confuse the need for absolute unwavering faith that you can and will prevail in the end with the discipline to confront the brutal facts of your current reality. – Jim Collins

Admiral Jim Stockdale was a prisoner of war for eight years during Vietnam, an experience he and his wife chronicled in the book In Love and War. After reading the book, Collins asked Stockdale about how he got through the experience. Stockdale said “I never wavered in my faith, not only that I would get out, but that I would turn those years in the camp into the defining event of my life, that in retrospect I would not trade.” Years later in his research, Collins noted that the Good to Great leaders had the same unwavering faith and the ability to confront the brutal facts of reality.

Join us for this Vistage webinar on Friday, May 1, from 1pm–2pm ET

Prior to this presentation, I will be hosting a virtual meeting for qualified CEOs  of companies in Manhattan with 25 employees or more. It will be a safe place for CEOs who want to talk through concerns and move toward solutions. It’s about breaking the isolation and knowing you don’t have to go through this alone. Let me know if you would like to attend below.
